Boys Soccer Team Finishes Strong

At MBHS, there are a variety of sports, clubs and activities for us to join and create, giving us multiple options and diversity. One sport team worth knowing about is the boys varsity soccer team. Last year, the team went to the playoffs, but lost second round in.

This year, they made a strong comeback and got to the third game of the playoffs.

Before their last game, The Phoenix caught up with the co-coach, Jonathan Wachter. He said, “I think we have a really good chance of beating them (HS For Math, Science and Engineering), and our team is motivated to beat them. We lost to them last year, second round in (playoffs), and we’re prepared to not let that happen again. There are many students with this burning desire to not let them win, so we’ll see. Wish us luck.”

Sadly, the team lost that game 4-0. Overall, Millennium ended the season ranked second on PSAL’s standings for B league: Manhattan BII south. Last year, they were ranked fourth, so there’s obvious improvement.

After the game, The Phoenix interviewed one senior player at MBHS, Lylens Lubin. Lylens discussed the beginning of the season saying the team was, “feeling very confident about themselves. We obviously didn’t end it where we wanted to end it, but we still went farther then we went last year, so that was an accomplishment. The only thing we can do now is look forward to the future.”
