The 2016-2017 fencing season has surpassed its first month, and the Millennium Fencing team is off to a strong start, winning all but one of six games due to a loss this past Monday to Stuyvesant High School.

The team consists of 14 players that range from freshmen to seniors who are from both Millennium Manhattan and Millennium Brooklyn.

They are led by coach Avery Nackman, a first year coach at Millennium, her knowledge of fencing stemming from her 10 years of international experience in South Korea and Israel.

Teammates have expressed their opinion about their coach, Senior Alex Isdith showing his appreciation for how “she really pushes us hard” explaining that he’s “usually sore the next day after practice.”

The team currently practices in Millennium Manhattan three times a week. According to most, teammates love both playing with and helping each other out. During games, senior Eric Chan describes how they “try to give tips and help our teammates out, we support them and when it’s our turn they support us as well.”

With only four weeks left in the season, the team is hoping to make the playoffs for a second consecutive season. If you see a fencer in the hallways, be sure to wish them luck for the remainder of the season.
