What Does Spring Training Mean for the Baseball Team?

Baseball season is coming up, which means that it is almost time for the MBHS Phoenix’s annual spring training trip. The team spends a week in Fort Pierce, Florida doing intense training and multiple exhibition games in order to better themselves and prepare for their season. They spend an exhausting amount of hours every day dedicated to improving their skills on the field.

Their coach, Brian Friedman, stated that spring training is a “really good opportunity for the players to bond and gel as a team.”

Brandon Abrenica has been a member of the Phoenix for four years, and has participated in spring training for the last two seasons. Similar to Friedman, Brandon stated that, “spring training is a great way to work on your skills, get in shape, as well as get a chance to know your teammates. It doesn’t hurt that you are in Florida with the beautiful weather, but it’s mainly just a way to help your team and yourself get better.” According to the website, Current Results, Fort Pierce has an average daily high of 85 degree weather during the spring, which is no joke when training outdoors all day.

The significance of spring training is that it is an opportunity for the team to bond on a level that is beyond what the four bases can provide on a regular day’s worth of practice.
