Teacher Spotlight: Kevin Conway

Daniel Cohen, Staff Reporter

DC: Can you state your name and what you do here at MBHS?

KC: I’m Kevin Conway, Assistant Principal of Instruction and Advanced Placement Psychology teacher.

DC: Can you tell us some things about your early life?

KC: I grew up mostly in Colorado. I played a lot of sports, loved hiking and camping, have great parents and sister, had solid friends, and I was a bit shy and nerdy but enjoyed school.

DC: What persuaded you to become a teacher?

KC: I liked the idea of waking up every morning with the goal of helping kids learn and grow. I didn’t want to sell a product I didn’t believe in or do something that felt empty or meaningless. I like learning and I like working with teenagers, so teaching was kind of the logical choice.

DC: What’s your favorite thing about teaching here?

KC: The students. By far and away the best part of MBHS is being a small part of students’ growth and development.  You guys are the best part of the job.

DC: What’s your least favorite thing about teaching here?

KC: Grading and compliance reports, both of which are necessary but very time consuming.

DC: Can you talk about what it’s like teaching at a brand-new school?

KC: Exciting and challenging. You have to wear many hats and take on many responsibilities, but it’s incredible to look back and know that we built an entire school together in less than 4 years.
