Back From the Holidays

The holidays are over, and it’s back to school for students at MBHS. For some, the break was an uneventful and lethargic experience. Senior Patrick Lapinski bluntly remarked, “I did nothing.” Tanacia Mitchell gave an account that was similar to Lapinski’s, describing her vacation as being dull, but she noted later that she went shopping with the money she received for Christmas. Senior Monica Chhay had a hard time remembering productive things she did over break. She was only able to recount that she “babysat her niece.”

Still, some students found the time to go on vacation or see their relatives. Jared Hammerman was able to do both when he traveled to Mexico with his step-siblings. “I had a good time,” Hammerman recounts. Lars Breski-Thompson, a sophomore, went with his family on a trip to Montreal, where they have a house. Julia Jacobson visited her grandmother, who traveled up to New York from Florida, and stayed at her uncle’s house.

It seems that these students value their vacations mainly as an opportunity to relax. According to interviews, while many college application deadlines took place over the break, seniors do not seem to have stressed out too much about them.
