As the girl’s basketball team prepares for the 2014-2015 season, members of the Lady Phoenix express their excitement for the upcoming season.

Alyssa Montes, the starting shooting guard states, “we’re ready to take the championship. Over the summer we’ve worked really hard to improve our skills. We’ve got a lot to show this year, and I’m really pumped.”

Last year, the team had an impressive win-loss record of 14-2, earning a highest seed in Manhattan B south division during the playoffs. Unfortunately, the team fell short in the playoffs when they lost to Adams Street 38-35.

When Alyssa was asked about what she thought about their loss she said, “I think we got so used to winning that when we faced a competitive group we got a little too confident and that was our loss.”

Coach Brian McCarthy expressed how this year he plans to take the team to a whole other level in terms of competition. “This year we’re going to attend a tournament in Albany to face stronger competition so when we return for the actual league, we can have an even better understanding of how we play together.”

The girl’s basketball team has been working really hard to take it all this season. The schedule will be posted on the sports bulletin, so if you have the time, show your support and drop by a game.
