As we sprint towards the end of the year, some Millennium sports teams are just getting warmed up. Along with the usual spring sports like baseball and softball, Millennium now has an official outdoor track team.

The Millennium track team does not have a track where they can practice yet, but this has not stopped them from starting workouts in preparation for the upcoming season.

Ms. Nagano, the girls track coach, says the track team is, “adapting our practices to be off a track while still applying the skills necessary when running on a track.” She does not go into detail about the exercises, but she does mention learning how to make turns while running on the track.

Ms. Nagano added that it was hard to get a track team because Millennium is a new school. She highlighted the budget of NYC schools saying, “to be fair, the PSAL tries to spread out their budget, and approve PSAL teams to schools that have not recently had a PSAL team approved.” This funding issue is why perspective track stars have to “Run from downtown to uptown (Manhattan),” according to T’Challah Evans, a Millennium junior and hopeful track star.

The PSAL website has not been updated with the information regarding when the first Millennium track meet will be held.  T’Challah says the “first meet [is] towards the end of March.”

Additionally, the track team needs 2-4 managers. If anyone is interested please contact Ms. Nagano- [email protected] or Mr. Hines- [email protected]
