Senior Shirts – Wear or Dump?

Senior Shirts - Wear or Dump?

Jennifer Martinez, Staff Reporter

As seniors, we deserve artifacts for the four years of hard work and being the last class to know MBHS from its starting days on the ground floor. Unfortunately, it was not the case with the senior shirts.

Ms. Rogan, who’s in charge of Senior Committee stated that the designing of the senior shirts was done “over the summer” and that “the Parents Association placed [the] order for the students.”

The problem with that was that the senior class did not receive any notification of the designing of the shirt. Not a questionnaire, survey, nor any sign that MBHS wanted student feedback and opinions from the juniors (soon to be seniors of 2017 in September).

When the shirts were distributed to take a picture in Prospect Park of all the seniors, a wave of disappointment and anger grew amongst the senior class. The anger and back lashing at the senior shirts was revealed in the hallways, on Facebook and Snapchat. A current senior that wished to remain anonymous stated “for starter’s why grey? It takes the appearance of a gym shirt, and the font looks as if it’s wearing off. I was forced to pay for something I had no say in.”

Senior year is the last year for the fellow upperclassmen to be in high school, but it is the most expensive year as well. Paying senior dues, the senior trip and prom are what seniors at Millennium Brooklyn High School (MBHS) have had to handle in order to meet the deadline.

The open agitation amongst the seniors started to decrease, however many still hold a grudge inside their hearts at MBHS for failing to include student feelings on the planning.

Current juniors reading this, as a piece of advice from a current senior; do not let this happen to you. Plan ahead, get involved, and be creative.  It may just be a shirt, but it holds great value in memories of the past four years of your lives, make it something you would be willing to wear outside of school.
