The Girls basketball playoffs are about to begin for the 2016-17 season and after the Millennium Girls Varsity team finished in 1st place in the Manhattan A South division. Millennium (15-2) finished 3 games ahead of the 2nd place Stuyvesant Phoenix (12-5) and finished off the regular season with a win against the Fashion Industries Falcons.

Head Coach Brian McCarthy mentioned the key to the team making a return to the playoffs is “taking it one game at a time, staying consistent, and working hard.” This is Coach McCarthy’s 6th year as the head coach of Millennium Phoenix and currently holds a record of 84-16 since taking the job in 2012.

Boys Varsity Coach Shawnelle Scott allocates the team’s success to “finding a way to win no matter what it is.”

Athletic director and head coach of the baseball team Brian Friedman also expressed that “both teams [Boys Varsity and Girls Varsity] are working extremely hard and the girls have been fortunate enough to put together a successful season.”

Last season the girls reached the B Division finals and are striving to do the same in the more competitive A Division. You can watch their first playoff game in the 2nd Floor Gym once the PSAL Playoff schedule is released.
