Things to Expect As An Upcoming Senior

As the class of 2016 is getting their college acceptances, the juniors of MBHS are just starting the college process. I asked a few seniors some questions as a way to inform and prepare the juniors on what’s to come.

Luisa Bracket, a senior at MBHS, said, “the college process was stressful.” She also said, that, as she gets letters back from the colleges she has applied to, it has become even more stressful. “The decision of where I want to go is stressing me out. I don’t know if I want to go to a different state or if I want to stay in New York,” she said.

I also interviewed a Junior at MBHS, Tyanna Simpkins, who is looking forward to “visiting colleges and seeing the classrooms [she] might be attending.” She also expressed her concerns about actually filling out the college applications for which she will be getting help from one of the college counselors, Ms. Mottahedeh or Ms. Gibbons.
According to the data the school collected on last year’s seniors, all but one of them are now attending the college of their choice. When Ms. Mottahedeh, a college counselor, was asked about what juniors should be preparing for the upcoming year, she responded by saying, “visit as many colleges as possible” and “don’t waste your summer.” She advises the Juniors to get an internship, a job, take pre college classes, or become a camp counselor. All of these things look good on a resume to colleges.
