In the spring of 2016, the John Jay Campus will participate in a program called SiNG: a student led musical, sponsored in part by Taylor Swift, that aims to bring all the schools together.

SiNG is a program where students  write and perform musicals and gives high school students a chance to, “work with their peers, and create and execute projects from start to finish” according to nyc.schools.gov.

Taylor Swift donated the money to allow more New York City schools to participate in SiNG. The John Jay campus was selected as one of the schools to participate in after the music teacher at Park Slope Collegiate applied on behalf of the building.

There will be two teams competing against each other. One team will be the freshmen and seniors. The other team will be the sophomores and juniors. The teams will made up of students from all five schools that reside in the building.

SiNG welcomes all talents high school students carry, including writers, performers, singers, set designers and actors.

Maricruz Sanchez, a former student at Edward R. Murrow, said that “SiNG was extremely successful. It was able to bring students to work together on something they love.”

Caryn Davidson, an art teacher at Millennium Brooklyn High School encourages all talented students to join. She said there is “no audition, but a mandatory meeting on February 4th for anyone who wishes to participate.”

SiNG will run in the spring and will bring the building’s students and teachers together.
