PARK SLOPE, NY – Students at Millennium Brooklyn High School participated in the annual Holiday Food Drive in partnership with the Arab-American Family Support Center, coordinated by Brian Faughnan, MBHS internship coordinator.

According to the organization’s website, AAFSCNY is an Arab American Family Support Center non-profit organization that “empowers new immigrants with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and become  active participants in their communities.”

Faughnan said that “MBHS has always shared initiatives with the Arab American Family Support Center over two years with them hosting MBHS interns in their offices, MBHS volunteers in their after school programs, and through [the MBHS community] referring students and families to services next year.”

The Holiday Food Drive was successful this year, mainly due to the underclassmen at MBHS.

The AAFSCNY received over 150 pounds of food from over 20 students in one week. Faughnan predicted this was because, “underclassmen support their community in more active ways by volunteering at hospitals, tutoring centers, soup kitchens, etc.” Faughnan lastly complemented the MBHS student body. He said, “as a staff we love our students, but it’s vital that they realize how fortunate so many of them are, and how fortunate they all are to be at such a supportive school.”

For next year’s holiday food drive, the student body is encouraged to participate in giving back to the community, so there can be an even more successful turnout than this year.
