Is it Worth it to Get a Job Now?

If you have your working papers and spare time, there are many job opportunities for students during their school year. As rewarding as it is with work experience and the possibility of earning money, it can be very stressful for students to juggle between homework, projects, and a job.

MBHS senior Vitaliy Dmuchovsky is responsible for taking orders at a sushi place and he finds it very hard to commit to a job and be able to effectively complete all assignments. He himself barely manages to complete all his work. He spends over 31 hours in school a week and now he has to work a total of 21 hours a week and he claims that “it becomes frankly, just exhausting.”

Senior Courtney Bunn thinks otherwise. She works 4 hours a week and claims, “it’s easy to babysit kids and still have time to do my work and whatever else I need to do.” Similarly, senior Hannah Da Silva also works “four hours a week” and babysits kids. Like Courtney She finds it easy to take care of kids and complete all her work.

It is worth it to get a job if you can manage the hours. If the good outweighs the bad then it is nothing but beneficial to spend your time earning money for whatever purpose, as long as you know that the hours aren’t taking a toll on you and that you feel confident in your ability to keep up with schoolwork.
