With the Lady Phoenix placing third in the city in the B Division, they are now heading toward the PSAL championships.  Their first challenge came on February 26, on the fourth floor against the High School for Math and Science.  With the stands packed and a home court advantage, the Lady Phoenix had a great victory, defeating the dragons 51-20.

They exploded first quarter taking a lead on the Dragons 20-2 to start the game.

Coach Brian McCarthy said, “ we had a strong start, one of the best first quarters we had all year.”

As a good start to their playoff games, the Lady Phoenix hope for the best and a chance to move on to the Division Championships.

Senior leading scorer Jasmaine Brathwaite also commented on the game. She stated,   in the “first quarter we really showed our strengths, but as the other quarters came along we played mediocre.  We could have done better as a whole.” She also stated that, as they move along, “practices are becoming more intense. We have to put in the work in order to come up on top.”

According to the PSAL Website, the next game for the Lady Phoenix is Thursday March 5th at 5pm at the John Jay Campus, where they will take on Bard High School.
